Virtual Reality And Ambisonics As Effective Combination Of Immersive Media In Raising Awareness For Indonesia’s Birds Conservation Organization (2020)
Virtual Reality has arguably been one of the most popular immersive media for many years, especially 360 Video Camera, but its utilisation is limited to entertainment purposes; thus, this research aims to test its wider potential beyond its evident field of interest. On the other hand, audio has always been the forgotten element in many audiovisual productions because of its intangibility. This research will explore one of many emerging audio sciences: Ambisonics/3D Spatial Audio. By combining the two powerful elements, this research is trying to prove the user engagement and communication strategy’s effectiveness, especially in raising awareness for Indonesia’s bird conservation NGO called Burung Indonesia, where the 360 Video Camera captures the environment, and 3D Spatial Audio captures the sound of Indonesia’s birdlife. Therefore, the output of this research is to discover a new communication infrastructure through digital fabrication.
Toda’s Adventure (2026)
The game Toda’s Adventure is a 2D platformer about a lost Sumatran tiger cub, Toda, who is on a journey to find his mom. On his adventures, Toda meets the other animals of the rainforest and learns more about how his home and its inhabitants have been negatively affected by humans. Along the way, Toda changes his goals to not only find his mom but also figure out how to save his precious home. The ending planned involves linking real conservation organisations in helping Toda’s mission of saving the Indonesian rainforests and his people. The demo currently contains 2 stages, a tutorial level and a 2nd stage. The tutorial teaches the players the basic mechanisms of the game, like walking, jumping and how to interact with objects and characters.
After learning the basics, the player meets a binturong named Bintu who is hungry. After solving a parkour puzzle to retrieve a fig for Bintu, he explains to Toda about how humans have affected the forest and taken away most of the food supply. When Toda asked if Bintu had seen his mom, Bintu replied yes but warned Toda about the dangers of the area he’s about to enter, as it has been affected the most by humans. Entering the 2nd stage, Toda enters a desolate and barren area where all the trees have been cut down and deforested. This stage reflects the real-world situation of many rainforests and highlights the impacts of human interference, such as deforestation, on the environment.
